Morning snack at Rosebud Garden nourishes the children after they've exerted energy through social play, domestic work and artistic activity. It's served between 9:45 and 10:00am, when the children's energy begins to run low. It's the perfect time to replenish with delicious, nourishing food, served with water and/or tea. During morning snack we give the children just enough to carry them over to their healthy, warm lunches.
When we create our recipes for the school year at Rosebud Garden we are inspired, not only by the foods available to us seasonally, but also by the ways in which we can best support the needs of the children’s growing bodies. Lunch is a time for the children to replenish after time playing outdoors and getting the movement their bodies need.
The snack we serve the children after their naps is light. It is just enough to give them energy to enjoy more playtime indoors or outdoors and carry them over to the dinner they will share with their families at home.
Our cob oven is the central focus of the evening gatherings we hold throughout the year. Built with the help of parents, teachers and children, the cob oven is a reflection of the strong sense of community we have created at Rosebud Garden. The smells of burning wood and baking breads, pizzas and apples from the oven, are a welcoming delight to the senses.
At Rosebud Garden, we enjoy experimenting with a variety of grains, some ancient, to make our breads. The children joyfully anticipate bread day, which happens every Wednesday. It's also when we bake the rolls that have become the focal point of the snack served at our Parent & Child program. Depending on the season, we bake loaves of bread and rolls in our outdoor cob oven and make extra loaves for parents to purchase at pick-up time. The aroma of bread baking is loved by all.
